ENGLISH ESSAY ‘Primary Middle stage education’ FROM 300 TO 350 WORDS



The first stage in the educational ladder of our country begins when a little child, boy or girl, reaches the age of five. He or she joins a primary school, usually found in the area the child live in. It consists of two stages, the primary stage and the middle stage. Education at the primary stage is given in five classes of one year duration each. It is followed by the middle stage from sixth to eight classes. In schools organized on modern lines, the primary classes are preceded by the kindergarten education when the child is three years of age. It is imported through play and activity rather than by reading and writing. At primary level reading, writing and arithmetic are taught. The aim of primary education is to make a child literate.

Normally local governments run primary schools while private organization and individuals also establish kindergarten and primary schools. Education in government primary schools is free but it is not very regrettable by a careful estimate that more than half the children of school going age never attend any school at all. An overwhelming majority of our people is illiterate. According to the 1981 census, only 26 per cent of our population is literate, this is one of the main causes of backwardness and misery in our country. Another factor which hinders spread of education in shortage of primary schools, especially in village. Yet another factor is poor quality of teaching, this is mainly because of shortage of qualified and trained teachers and the salaries of the teachers. This defect can be remedied by improving the teaching qualities of our primary school teachers and increasing their pay so that good teachers might be available.
One of the main problems of primary education is the large number of dropouts. 50 per cent of children leave schools when they reach class five. Reasons are low family income, costly reading materials and lack of motivational arrangements to induce not to withdraw their children from schools.
