ENGLISH ESSAY ‘corruption in pakistan’ FROM 600 TO 625 WORDS

Corruption is one of the major problems of developing countries such as Pakistan. Pakistan right now is fighting against different types of corruption-political, bureaucratic, corporate and individual corruption. Even after so many years of independence, the country has not been able to free itself from it.
Corruption in simple words means getting work done by illegal means. Corruption in the Pakistani society has prevailed in one form or the other. The means of corruption vary. Bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, patronage, graft and embezzlement are a few forms. Corruption may also lead to criminal enterprise such as drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking and a lot of other such crimes. Although, corruption is not restricted to these activities only, such crimes are rampant in the society and make it difficult to stop corruption.
Corruption is widespread and starts at an individual level. We hear about some or the other scams happening every day. It is like a parasite which is making our country hollow. Largely, political corruption comes in the limelight.

Corruption exists at the political and bureaucratic level also. Often government officials and ministers use their powers for illegitimate private gain. Many government officials and ministers use their power for personal gains. This is a form of political corruption. Misuse of government power for other purposes such as earning money, taking bribe, taking obligations in cash or kind, etc are all such forms of corruption. An officeholder can be said to be acting illegally and involved in political corruption only if the act is directly related to his official duties. Many ministers, government officials, politicians, etc are found guilty in big scams. This is clearly done by influencing others for trade, taking commissions, etc. It is disheartening that we elect the ministers by casting our precious vote, believing in them which they then misuse.

These days many corporate scams are also being heard of. People at high posts in the private sector companies and even in multinational companies are found misusing their power in promoting non-eligible tenders, taking bribes, commission, etc. Many cases of money laundering have been seen in the banking sector. Telecom sector being an emerging field is facing major scams. It is sometimes amazing that in spite of the strict rules, regulations and control boards, people manage to perform the serious crime of corruption at their own level.
Corruption at individual level looks small but collectively it contributes largely in increasing the level of corruption. Individually, people right from peons to the directors of the company are corrupt. Peons are found taking bribes, some do in the form of giving favors, builders sacrifice the quality of construction material in earning their  own share, public sectors companies have their own way of taking bribes, doctors are seen performing serious crimes such as giving fake medicines, taking out human body parts like kidneys and selling them, etc. Everybody is involved in some or the other kind of corruption.
Many social workers are working to bring the people of our country to fight together against the social evil of corruption. Recently, Imran Khan led the movement against corruption which even brought the children on streets in his support.
It was an eye opener for the people of our country who were sitting quietly and tolerating corruption at each level. We should not forget that after all, corruption is done by using a common man’s money which he gives as tax. If we want to give a better, clean country to our future generations, we have to start working now.
Corruption is one an increase because we, as citizens allow them to do so. Therefore, it is time for us to stand and fight against corruption and raise our voices to stop it.
