Should Animals Be Used For Research

‘Should Animals be used for research’ ?

All of us in some way or the other suffer from various diseases. We see people round us suffering from debilitating illness or a life-threatening disease. In order to develop cures and treatments for the illnesses and diseases that exist in our world, scientists conduct research and experiments and with the advancements in medical field and scientific research, the treatments of such life threatening diseases are now possible. It is ironic that for the experiments and research work required for the wellness of humans, are carried out on animals.
Since the last century, plethora of animals is used for testing drugs and other research purposes. However, according to the opinion of few people, the process of testing and research on animals is mandatory before applying it on human beings, where as others think differently and believe that this process is unethical. Today, the research on animals is presently under threat because these experiments involve the use of many different animals and animal-rights group want to ban the use of animals in scientific testing. They believe that it is a cruel and inhumane practice to use animals for self use.
On one hand, it is true that research and testing on animals have significantly contributed I developing medicines and treatment on the other hand, in our new technological society, we can find out alternatives and substitutes, so that animals should only be used for research when absolutely necessary.

The role of animals in research has a huge contribution. Without observing and testing the entire living system, scientists cannot explore explained or predict the course of many diseases or the effects of treatments. Hence, animal testing has helped to develop vaccines against diseases like rabies, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, tuberculosis, diabetes, obesity some cancers, tetanus, pneumonia, hepatitis and arthritis treatments. Operation on animals helped to develop organ transplant and open heart surgery techniques.
Animals are living beings and so they experience a life. Animals have senses and they stimulate too, thus, animals can feel pain, fear, stress, excitement, and satisfaction. According to the scientists, animals are the better choice than humans, because some animals are biologically similar to humans, and humans share many diseases with animals.
According to the scientific research, animal’s research has led to some of the most important medical discoveries in history. Furthermore, it is undeniable fact that animal’s research has yielded very successful results.
Animals also have to go through a painful process when they used for research including artificial marketing and tagging procedures for biomedical and wildlife experimentation. Animal experimentation should be regulated sufficiently. The contribution of animals to human health is lot such as animals have been burnt, electrocuted, tortured with drugs, and poisoned with toxic chemicals in psychological testing.
