ENGLISH ESSAY ‘TIPU SULTAN’ FROM
450 TO 500 WORDS
In the south of India is the land of Mysore. It was
a Muslim Kingdom; the ruler of that Kingdom was Fateh Ali. Tipu, the son of
Sultan Haider Ali, was a brave and courageous man. When the Muslim power in the
subcontinent was declining and the encroachments of the British were
increasing, it was he who made a determined effort to secure freedom for the
land of his birth. He was a loyal and firm Muslim. He took keen interest in the
administration of his country.
From far off Europe, there had come English and
French traders, they had set up business in many parts of the subcontinent.
Both of them worked their way up and become so daring that each of them planned
to become masters of Hindustan. Sultan Haider Ali was always fighting these
outsiders. Tipu Sultan, like his brave father did the same.
In order to fight against the English, he raised an
army and tried to make alliance with other rulers. The English regarded him
their greatest enemy, they decided to break his power.
Not for from Mysore were two other states they were
those of Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marhattas. Both of them were jealous of the
rising power of Tipu Sultan and they wished him ill.
Tipu Sultan sent his ambassadors to Turkey and
Germany to get the support of their government against the English. He also
sought help from the ruler of Afghanistan. But none of these countries came to
help him. Nizam of Hyderabad and Marhattas joined hands with English against
him.
Tpu Sultan started preparation to fight against the
English all alone. The English made a conspiracy with the help of Sultan
Pornia. The Hindu Manister, Sultan Pornia bribed some of the courtiers and with
the help of his enemies, English attacked the Kingdom of Mysore. But Tipu
Sultan was not a coward, this ‘Lion of Mysore’ stood on his ground like a rock,
with his small number of soldiers. In spite of unfavorable circumstances, Tipu
Sultan bravely fought against his enemies and sacrificed his life on the
battlefield. He used to say that “to live one day like a lion is better than to
live a hundred years like a jackal.” On seeing the dead body of Tipu Sultan,
the English General Harris cried out “Now the subcontinent is ours.”
Tipu Sultan was not only a great soldier but also a
great ruler. He wanted all India to belong to the Indians. If he did not have
so many enemies within his own country to aid the outsiders, we might have had
a different history of this subcontinent. To make our dear country great and
strong, it is most necessary that we should know our enemies and keep them at
bay. There is much we can learn from the life story of Tipu Sultan. “United we
stand and divided we fall.”
